Once you have everything you need (including a quality lead) follow these practical tips to guide your walk:

1st Make sure your pockets are full of yummy goodies to walk forward.

2nd Choose a walkway that is not full of distractions, like other dogs.

3rd The walk will begin as soon as you walk outside your door - do not dawdle talking to neighbors, because it can confuse the dog.

4th Make sure you put the lead on before leaving the house and that lead is no longer than 6 feet long.

5th Communication is the key to a casual walk with your dog. Verbal praise your dog for walking nicely followed by a treatment enhances his / her good behavior.

6th If your mutt will try to take the lead either stop abruptly (Do not pull on the lead, will he / she draws instinctively back) or turn clockwise. Do not continue to walk until the management has become loose and flabby.
